Backup is the line founders assume is handled and the one that most often is not. The SaaS accounts holding your mail, your documents, your books, and your directory are almost never included in anything, because the provider keeps the service running and everybody reads that as keeping your data. Those are different promises.
Most teams have something for the laptops, even if it is a folder syncing to a consumer service. Almost nobody has anything at all for the Microsoft tenant, for Workspace, for the Entra directory, or for the books. The platforms are excellent at staying available and are explicit that retaining your data is your responsibility, which is a sentence people read once during setup and never again.
A deleted mailbox, a directory change made by somebody with too many rights, or a books file that gets corrupted are all ordinary events. Without a copy they become a very bad quarter.
Copies are kept apart from the systems they cover, which is the entire point. A backup reachable from the machine it protects is a backup an attacker can reach too.
The verification line exists because untested backups fail at the worst possible time. Rather than assuming a restore works, it runs and confirms that protected systems come back. It is the cheapest line on this sheet and the one that most often turns out to matter.
Prices below are pulled straight out of billing. Anything you add sits in your basket while you carry on reading.
Version history for the documents in progress on a Windows workstation, for the recovery that is actually most common: one file, one bad save, one afternoon ago.
| Runs on | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Scope | Working files on a Windows workstation |
| Granularity | File level, with version history |
| Best fit | The single file mistake, which is the common case |
| Rate basis | Windows workstation, monthly |
A complete image of a workstation, so a failed drive or an encrypted machine is a rebuild you schedule rather than a week you lose.
| Runs on | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Scope | Complete workstation image |
| Restore | Individual file through to full machine |
| Storage | Held apart from the protected system |
| Rate basis | Workstation, monthly |
Image protection for physical servers, including the machine in the closet that runs a license manager nobody has thought about since it was installed.
| Runs on | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Scope | Physical server, full image |
| Workloads | Application aware protection where supported |
| Restore | Same hardware or replacement hardware |
| Rate basis | Physical server, monthly |
The same image protection for virtual servers, counted per virtual machine so the invoice matches what you actually run.
| Runs on | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Scope | Virtual machine, full image |
| Restore | File, volume, or whole machine |
| Counting | Per virtual machine |
| Rate basis | Virtual server, monthly |
Independent protection for Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, and Teams content, because Microsoft keeps the service running and expects you to keep your data.
| Runs on | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Scope | Exchange Online, OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams content |
| Restore | Item, mailbox, or site level |
| Retention | Set by your policy |
| Rate basis | Licensed user, monthly |
The same independent copy for Gmail, Drive, Calendar, and Contacts, held outside Google so a deletion inside Workspace is not the end of the story.
| Platform | Dropsuite |
|---|---|
| Scope | Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Contacts |
| Restore | Item level, with search |
| Storage | Independent of Google Workspace |
| Rate basis | Licensed user, monthly |
A copy of the books. Bad imports, deleted transactions, and a change nobody can explain are all ordinary events, and none of them are reversible without one.
| Platform | Dropsuite |
|---|---|
| Scope | QuickBooks Online company file |
| Restore | Point in time |
| Best fit | Anyone whose bookkeeping is not reconstructable by hand |
| Rate basis | Company file, monthly |
Cover for the directory itself: accounts, group membership, role assignment, policy. When somebody with broad rights changes something on a Friday, this is how you find out what it looked like beforehand.
| Platform | Dropsuite |
|---|---|
| Scope | Entra ID users, groups, roles, and policy configuration |
| Use | Reference and recovery after an unwanted directory change |
| Counting | Per tenant |
| Rate basis | Tenant, monthly |
Automated proof that the copies work. A restore is performed on a schedule and confirmed, so recovery stops being a belief and becomes a record you can show somebody.
| Platform | N-able Cove |
|---|---|
| Function | Automated restore, performed and verified on a schedule |
| Output | Dated evidence that recovery succeeded |
| Requires | A backup line on the same system |
| Rate basis | Protected system, monthly |
Backup carries more comfortable assumptions than any other product we sell, so here are the ones worth dismantling before you buy.
